Club Championship

Bruce TullohThe 2007 Marlborough Running Club Championship

The 2007 club championship adopts a similar format to previous years and awards prizes in two categories: best male and best female.

The basic format is that in specified events members score points based on their age-adjusted results. These adjustments are made using the World Association of Veteran Athletics (WAVA) age-grading standards (click here to use the WAVA Age Grading Calculator) - so the best overall performances (male and female) should win, at least in theory!

2007 Club Championship Events

In 2006 we included a total of 12 events or distance categories in the Championship, from which a competitor’s best 8 results counted. However, some members had difficulty taking part in 8 races from 12, so we have decided to include more events next year and particularly of shorter distance. There will, therefore, be at least 15 races from which your best 8 will count, which should make it easier for all participants to score as many points as possible.

For more information on this year's rules, see below.

2007 Marlborough Running Club Championship Rules (those not already stipulated above)

  1. The Club Championship will cover the calendar year and will be open to all fully paid up members.
  2. Only races completed while a paid up member will be eligible (so races run before joining MRC, or when membership subs were unpaid, will not count).
  3. There will be at least 15 nominated events/categories, from which each member’s best 8 results will count.
  4. Championship entrants will score up to 20 points for each event – ie: the best age-adjusted times (male & female) will score 20 points, and all others will score points relative to those times. (In simple terms this means if, after age adjustment, you take twice as long as the person scoring 20 points, you will score 10 points.)
  5. In the case of a tie, final Championship positions will be decided on the basis of those events in which the tied runners both competed; if still a tie, the member with the most/highest finish position(s) will prevail.
  6. We may not know what races have been entered, particularly in the standard distance categories where each member’s single best result will count; therefore members who want to take part in the Championship will be required to:
    a) register for the series, and
    b) notify what events they complete, and
    c) confirm their results (particularly their best results in the standard distance categories).
  7. Registration can be at any time during the year, but only events after registration will count, plus you will be allowed to include 1 retrospective race - in case you initially decide not to enter and then surprise yourself with an exceptional result!
  8. Any disputes will be settled by the organiser.
